The Carvalho Dias family has won various awards for our coffee excellence, including awards from Illy coffee and the ‘Cup of Excellence.’ The highlight was winning the 'Cup of Excellence' competition in 2004.
Cup of Excellence
The Cup of Excellence competition has been held in Brazil for the past 6 years. All coffee farmers, large and small are invited to submit their best coffee samples. Each coffee goes through a very rigorous
blind tasting, first by a national jury, and then a jury of international experts. In recent years over 900 farmers have submitted their coffees, so it is always a big deal to be a finalists, and a huge deal to be the winner of the best coffee in the country!
Besides having won the Best coffee in the country in 2004, the Carvalho Dias family is the only Family in Brazil to have at least one finalist every year since the competition has been held, showing that coffees from our farms are consistently high quality. We attribute this consistency in excellence to the hard work and dedication of past and new generations who have cared for our coffee plants and our environment for the well being of the farm. Below is a table showing how our family has performed in the Cup of Excellence since the first competition was held. Note that the price shown is for green beans (usually green beans are sold for less than $1.00/lb). This incredible ongoing success is unheard of in the coffee industry.
