 Nossa Familia has opened its first retail location. The Nossa Familia Café is located at 2 N. Killingsworth in Portland, and is a partnership with Ethos Music Center.
Nossa recently hosted a grand opening celebration at the Café, featuring items from the menu, and offering a chance for attendees to enjoy its lively yet homey atmosphere with friends and colleagues from around the Portland area. In addition to serving freshly roasted Nossa Familia coffee and espresso drinks, the Café offers scrumptious pastries, sandwiches and soups.
Ethos Music Center is a Portland-based nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of music and music based education for youth in underserved communities. Ethos was officially organized in 1998 by a dedicated group of volunteer staff and instructors. The first classes were offered in the basement of the University of Portland. Since that time the organization has moved (and purchased) the North Portland location that houses music facilities as well as the café. It has grown to become one of Oregon’s largest arts education sources and has received numerous regional and national awards.
One of Ethos’ founding members and its executive director, Charles Lewis is an alum of the University of Portland. Lewis and Nossa Familia cofounder Augusto Carneiro were classmates at U.P. In the fall of 2008, Lewis and Carneiro participated in a sustainability panel at the university. Their re-acquaintance led to further discussions, eventually leading to the café collaboration at Ethos.
 The combination of performance space and café facilities will enable unique event opportunities. In future newsletters, announcements of events, cuppings and other festivities will be announced.
