the Buzz

Since 1890, the Carvalho Dias family has been growing amazing coffee in the highlands of Brazil. Enter Augusto: 5th generation Carvalho Dias and his friend Jason. Now the family's pride and joy is being imported directly to Portland and to your coffee cup. Follow the crop in Brazil, our progress as a start-up business, and share with us your passion for responsibly grown coffee.

Typical Tuesday

Some times we dress up in nice clothes and go to important meetings and negotiate big contracts over expensive meals. Other times we wear dirty clothes, hats, rent uHaul trucks and actually work. That was today. We had the 'pleasure' of moving 30 bags of green beans across town this morning.

Each burlap bag contains 132lbs of unroasted coffee (green coffee) and they aren't exactly easy to deal with. The fact that we don't own a truck capable of transporting them is nice too (note sarcasm). The Eurovan just can't manage 4,000 lbs of cargo. Long story short: we did it, we'll be sore tomorrow, and the coffee will taste good.

November business has been picking up quite nicely and we're readying ourselves for a couple of crazy months. Because of that, our inventory in the warehouse is growing. Keeping it organized hasn't been a priority until today so after moving green beans in the morning, we decided to do a little spring cleaning. And you thought this was a glamorous profession. :)

On lifting techniques: Notice how Augusto is using his legs to lift the heavy load. He has obviously done this before, Jason on the other hand has all the weight on his back. That's probably because the heaviest thing he is used to lifting is a good pint of beer!
Cheers!
Look forward to my Nossa Familia Travel Mug!
