We've Grown by 50% in One Month

Mitch
Mitch McInnis - Coffee Baron VP

The New Year brought some pretty exciting growth for Nossa - we increased our staff by 50%! When you're a two man operation, a 50% increase is only one person but no less important.

Mitch McInnis came to us with a diverse background in journalism, marketing, and management but most importantly a passion for great coffee and start-ups. Even in his first month, he has already helped transform the warehouse, improve our delivery schedule, and refined and expanded our communications strategy. The only thing he isn't any good at is Ping Pong - a wise decision given Augusto and Jason's fragile egos.

2008 is shaping up to be a truly amazing year for Nossa Familia. The three of us look forward to what lay ahead and keeping you up-to-date on all of our accomplishments!

We've Gone French

Augusto and Jason both happen to live very close to a great French Boulangerie and Patisserie in SE Portland. After having had many a wonderful breakfast and lunch, one of their wives insisted on pitching said establishment on the idea of serving Nossa Familia Coffee.

Our great neighborhood find is not alone. The proprietors of Petite Provence in SE Portland also serve their wares to lucky customers at La Provence in Lake Oswego and Petite Provence - The Dalles. Not only can you get some of the best croissants and pastries around, you can now treat yourself to Nossa Familia at the same time.

A Brazilian in Winter

Augusto is heading south, taking his family to the warmer climes of Brazil. When asked about the trip, he insists this year's crop needs inspection, and that every bean deserves a careful look. That's how he's explaining his month-long "business" trip to Brazil. But we know he's homesick for family and the Brazilian sun.

Traveling with children requires solid preparation and often some coaxing, as little ones aren't always cooperative travelers. Augusto's son Adriano, however, is a born globetrotter. As soon as his passport photo was snapped, he began asking, "Can we go to Brazil now?" A few months later, the answer is finally yes.

Nets of Love; Nets of Life

We have added a new charity to the website that you can donate to.

Nets of Love; Nets of LifeNets of Love; Nets of Life is a non-profit dedicated helping African families purchase mosquito nets to protect women and children at high risk of contracting malaria. This non-profit was started by our Friend Ashley Schoettle. She started the non-profit after she returned from Africa last summer, where she was living and working in a rural village in Ghana. "I was once again confronted with the problem of the tragic, yet completely preventable disease, malaria (over 45% of the patients at the local hospital in Hohoe, Ghana came to be treated for malaria...often too late). While in Ghana, I worked at an HIV/AIDS program counseling and assisting HIV victims and learned that AIDS and malaria are a far too common and decidedly deadly combination. Although the treatments for HIV and malaria are medically quite different, both diseases are often preventable and have the unfortunate ability to work together to weaken and eventually destroy lives. The benefit of addressing malaria and HIV together through medical/educational clinics in Africa is significant."
