We Survived Cycle Oregon
7 days, 901 miles on the van, 4200 espresso shots, and no sleep. And it was awesome! Augusto, Jason, and there good friend Randy "Sherpa" Wakerlin ventured out to the Blue Mountains with the goal of caffeinating 2000 avid bicyclists. Boy did we ever. Beginning at 3:50am each morning, the 3 of us would set up shop, brew coffee, and prepare the espresso machine. And by 5am there would be a line. By 9am we would pack up, move to the next town and do it all over again.
While we were busy making more lattes, and triple skim decaf mochas than we could previously have comprehended, it was an event to remember. To keep ourselves sane, we would occasionally hop on our bikes to escape the craziness of frothing milk and shot pulling. And let me tell you, there is nothing more invigorating than riding through the mountains of Eastern Oregon. Little towns like Starkey, Sumpter, Union and Athena would go all out to accommodate us. Great food, hospitality, and new friends made it an amazing week, and while it took us another whole week to recover, we can't wait to do it again next year!
Thank you to those who visited us each morning on the ride. It was a great opportunity to get out of the office and share our story with you. In the process, we met some great people, logged some miles, refined our barista skills, and learned that nobody in their right mind should ever get up so early. :)
