What's Happening at the Farm?
As we enjoy summer here in Portland, Oregon, it is currently the middle of winter at the farm in Brazil. Ironically, winter in Brazil is the dry season which makes it perfect for harvesting coffee.
Since May, they have been busy picking coffee, drying it on the patios, and selecting the specialty lots. This process will continue into September until the last of the coffee has been picked. From there, attention will shift in earnest to next years crop as well as the Cup of Excellence competition in November. Our family's past performance has been extraordinary - ranking among the finalists for the last 7 years (the only family in Brazil to do so). The highlight was winning the competition in 2004 and we hope to do so again in November!

Cycle Oregon Weekend Ride a Hot Success
Ever ride 70 miles in 112 degree heat? 700+ riders did 2 weeks ago - and while the weather was a bit on the warm side, an iced mocha never tasted as good as it did in Oakland, Oregon that evening. As a sponsor of Cycle Oregon, we had the joy of accompanying the riders throughout the 2 day tour south from Eugene to Oakland and back on scenic country roads. Serving coffee, lattes, mochas, and plenty of iced drinks, we refined our barista skills in preparation for the week long ride coming up in mid-September.
And speaking of the week long ride, we are muito animados (very excited for you Portuguese speakers) about the route and our participation this year! The Blue Mountains and all the little towns along the way will make a beautiful backdrop for an amazing ride and we can't wait to help fuel the 2000 riders with our coffee (and sneak out for a ride or two). With our espresso machine in tow and plenty of beans to sell, we look forward to spreading the word about Nossa Familia. We hope to see you there!
